Hello Vikings! Can you believe it’s October 1st? As your your PTSA board members move into fall, we are focused on National Custodian Appreciation Day, this Monday the 12th, and our first-ever Cultural Connections Night, the LHS College Fair, and the Reflections Art Program upcoming in November. Along side these events, your LHS PTSA is also busy on-goingly supporting Lakeside Clubs with mini-scholarships to fund events, purchase equipment and materials, and contribute to fees for competitions and outside opportunities for growth and development, to name a few. We will continue to trouble-shoot and assess our website and newsletter platform looking for the best structure since our move to Totem for PTSA membership management. Thank you for your patience and support! Finally, we want you on the team! Being on the PTSA board as Chair of a Committee, such as, Membership, or on the Executive Board, as VP Communications or Co-President, is fulfilling and fun. 10/2: NATIONAL CUSTODIAN DAY!! National Custodian Day is Monday, October 2nd - We love this day, which rolls around every October 2nd. It recognizes the hard work that it takes to keep our school facilities in tip-top shape as well as the people who diligently work, to make sure we have schools and workplaces that are spotless and sanitary. Custodians are our first line of defense on the war on germs. So, on National Custodian Day, we will show our appreciation with lunch and gifts to the 11 (currently) custodians who clean the school that your student attends. Two wonderful Lakeside families came forward and are sponsoring the lunch for the custodian staff! Each custodian will also receive a gift from the PTSA to show our thanks. As far as we’re concerned, custodians are some of the hardest-working people on campus! ***Quick update to National Custodian Day this Monday, October 2nd. We will now have a few new hires and our custodian staff will be 11 instead of 8. That’s really exciting!!!*** We had budgeted 8 lunch and gifts, but if anyone wants to contribute to the gifts for all 11 to help us stay on budget, please Venmo me @Michelle-Shevlin. Any amount is fantastic and just $5 from a few parents will greatly help.

Located at 2003 South Bibb Drive, Tucker Brewing Company (https://tuckerbrewing.com) is a family-and-pet-friendly venue, offering delicious food and beverages, live music, and a beer garden voted #4 in America by USA Today. Tucker Brewing will donate 20% of the night’s receipts to the Lakeside Foundation for scholarships, classroom grants, professional development, facility improvements, humanitarian aid, and the LHS Care Closet. CALLING ALL BOOSTERS: The days of google searching for logos, fonts, and colors to represent our Lakeside Vikings are coming to an end! I am excited to be spearheading this project to tighten up our Viking visuals. Your PTSA is finalizing a long overdue Brand Standards Kit for LHS that will contain all the ‘official’ logos, additional graphics, color codes, and fonts needed for print or digital use. This will be made available via a shared Google drive for easy remote accessibility. Access to the drive can be granted via a request to your PTSA leadership-more to come. 10/1-10/16: AP EXAM REGISTRATION Lakeside's AP exam registration is now live! Students interested in taking AP exams in the Spring MUST REGISTER NOW! The AP exam registration process is a two-step process: - Students will need to register for AP exams using the Total Registration system. This is the system where you will actually pay for exams, if necessary. All students receive one free exam from Dekalb County. The state of Georgia will also pay for an additional exam for students who are on Free/Reduced Lunch OR for students taking a STEM exam (a list of exams that qualify as STEM is included on the Total Registration website). The fee for other exams is $102. There is a place to indicate if you need financial assistance with exams during the registration process. Here is the website for Total Registration: https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/110184 Students who have taken an exam in the past should have an account. Those taking their first AP exam will be prompted to create an account.
- Students will need to indicate in their College Board account that they intend to take the AP exam. If students need password resets for that account, they will need to contact College Board directly. In order to complete this step in the registration process students will need to have joined their AP classes in AP Classroom using the join codes provided by their teachers.
FAILURE TO COMPELTE BOTH STEPS IN THIS PROCESS WILL RESULT IN NO EXAM BEING ORDERED FOR A STUDENT. Important Dates for Registration: - Monday, October 16th: Last day to register in Total Registration with NO LATE FEE
- Tuesday, October 17th: $10 late fee kicks in for registration
- Tuesday, October 24th: $20 late fee kick in for registration
- Tuesday, October 31st at 11:59 PM - REGISTRATION CLOSES!!!!
- Saturday, November 4th: Payment Deadline

10/1-10/7: APPLEROUTH - DIGITAL PSAT PREP RALLY Applerouth is kicking off the school year with our Digital PSAT Prep Rally - free online prep for the new Digital PSAT. Sessions will be offered from September 23 - October 7—secure your spot at applerouth.com/preprally |
10/11: COLLEGE BOARD PSAT/NMSQT This is Dr. Williams with a few important reminders regarding the upcoming PSAT test administration. Remember, this test is for all 10th-grade students and any 9th and 11th-grade students that registered. The test will be on October 11th, beginning promptly at 8:05 a.m. Please ensure students are on time to school on test day. It would also be great to have students eat a good breakfast because the test administration may be more than three hours sometimes, and lunch could be delayed for some students who receive extra time accommodations. Your students should have received their test sign-in tickets to complete pre-administration on September 28th. They may conduct full-length practice tests with the log-in provided. If your student still needs to receive their access and are registered for the test, please have them see Dr. C. Williams in the main office on Monday, October 2nd. More information about this has been emailed to you (and attached here). Please check your spam folder if you do not see it in your inbox. Most importantly, every PSAT student on October 11th must come with a fully charged device! We cannot accommodate the 758 students we have registered if they all have devices that need charging. 10/10: SWIM AND DIVE CONDITIONING AND TRYOUTS Conditioning: Tuesday-Friday starting Oct. 10, 3:30-4:30. The following week is Monday-Friday 3:30-4:30. POSITIVE STUDENT ATHLETE PROGRAM: Positive Student Athlete is a wonderful organization that honors students and coaches that are nominated as Positive Student Athletes in their schools. In the past two years, we have been honored to have two of our nominees be selected as the state winners. Keegan Cole won last year for multi sports as he plays ultimate frisbee, water polo and swims and the year before John Gross was selected as the Adaptive Athlete winner. Dr Stoddard and I attended the ceremony which was held at the College Football Hall of Fame. As the AD at Lakeside, it has been my goal to be named the Most Positive school in Georgia. Please help me achieve this goal by nominating someone. We can all nominate any student athlete or coach that you feel has a positive impact on their team at Lakeside and or in their community. It could be one of your son or daughter's teammates, or your neighbor, anyone in our Lakeside community that is deserving. Let's get to nominating!! The deadline is in March. LAKESIDE ULTIMATE FRISBEE Ultimate Frisbee is a club sport, and is an excellent "second sport" for athletes who love to throw, run, jump and make great catches. You can learn the basics of the sport quickly, and it's a lot of fun. Lakeside has one of the best teams in the state and is improving every year. Lakeside Ultimate Frisbee practices throughout the Fall and will participate in some weekend preseason tournaments during the Fall before playing games in the Spring. Being in another sport or activity in the Fall does not exclude you from participating in Ultimate. Come practice with us when you can and check it out. The National Art Honor Society and Art Club are collecting old, broken, unwanted musical instruments, and parts for a possible sculpture project. We are looking for musical instruments or parts for strings, woodwinds, brass, low brass, percussion, etc. The condition does not matter. 10/2: ¡¡DÍA NACIONAL DEL CUSTODIO!! El Día Nacional del Custodio es el lunes 2 de octubre - Nos encanta este día, que se celebra cada 2 de octubre. Reconoce el arduo trabajo que se necesita para mantener nuestras instalaciones escolares en plena forma, así como a las personas que trabajan diligentemente, para asegurarnos de que tengamos escuelas y lugares de trabajo impecables e higiénicos. Los custodios son nuestra primera línea de defensa en la guerra contra los gérmenes. 10/1-10/16: INSCRIPCIÓN AL EXAMEN AP ¡El registro para el examen AP de Lakeside ya está disponible! ¡Los estudiantes interesados en tomar exámenes AP en la primavera DEBEN REGISTRARSE AHORA! El proceso de registro del examen AP es un proceso de dos pasos: - Los estudiantes deberán registrarse para los exámenes AP utilizando el sistema de registro total. Este es el sistema en el que realmente pagará los exámenes, si es necesario. Todos los estudiantes reciben un examen gratuito del condado de Dekalb. El estado de Georgia también pagará un examen adicional para los estudiantes que reciben almuerzo gratis / reducido O para los estudiantes que toman un examen STEM (una lista de exámenes que califican como STEM se incluye en el sitio web de Registro total). FRISBEE ULTIMATE JUNTO AL LAGO Felicitaciones al ex Lakeside Ultimate y actual jugador de Emory, Justin Burnett, quien recibió el Premio Callahan 2023, la versión universitaria de Ultimate del Trofeo Heisman. Echa un vistazo a la increíble película destacada de Justin, que muestra el increíble atletismo de Ultimate de alto nivel. También juega para el equipo local de AUDL, Atlanta Hustle. Otra ex jugadora de Lakeside, Marie Perivier, protagonizó en UGA y fue nominada para el Callahan en 2022. Ultimate es un excelente "segundo deporte" para los atletas que aman lanzar, correr, saltar y hacer grandes capturas. Puedes aprender los conceptos básicos del deporte rápidamente, además de que es muy divertido. Si quieres obtener más información, habla con los jugadores del equipo en la mesa Ultimate en Club Rush.
